Christopher Lewis makes use of a seemingly universal formal expression in his pictures: starting from pictograms and figurative marks, complex contexts are developed that elude any clear assertions. The constrained visual world of the signs combines with the multilayered art around the neutrality and clarity in his work. In both form and content, he creates a tense relationship between the subjective painting or drawing and the neutral placativity of the signs.

The use of picture motives from everyday life or commerce within the art and the associated removal of boundaries between high and low culture essentially promotes Pop Art and achieves a new relevance by the flood of pictures and banners. A new relevance that Christopher Lewis confronts with the content of his work.
