At OSRAM, all automotive products that do not serve as headlamps, i.e. signal lamps, will be categorized as "auxiliary" (alternative notation: AUX). To clarify, "auxiliary" refers to all light sources that do not illuminate the street, but are meant for signal functions (i.e. indicating, breaking, reversing, and parking functions), as well as the license plate and the interior illumination.
The largest portion of today's new vehicles is equipped with clear headlight covers. The integrated indicator function is also being fitted with clear coverings - in contrast to the orange covering of the past. OSRAM supports this neutral vehicle design with the interference-coated indicator lamp, DIADEM. DIADEM has a high-tech bluish-neutral appearance when turned off and has been licensed for unlimited use in the ECE area.
Driving with daytime running lights is already required in some European countries. Currently, the EU is discussing the introduction of a daytime running light directive. Studies have proven that driving with daytime running lights increases the ability to recognize vehicles, and can thereby reduce the number of accidents during the day. OSRAM offers the possibility to convert to auto lamps especially made for this purpose - the LIGHT@DAY-family of lamps. These lamps offer a higher life span and provide a consistent lamp change interval like in the past. In addition to headlamps, OSRAM offers these special lamps for all relevant light functions that are turned on by use of the low-beam headlights (position/parking light, reverse light, and license plate light).
